Default Lowrance LCX111C HD Problems

Hi,

I have a Lowrance LCX111C HD unit with an external GPS and a fuel flow meter running on a NMEA 2000 network that has been trouble free since installing back in 2005. I also have it connected to my Raymarine SportPilot Plus autopilot using the NMEA 0183 protocol.

I was working on installing an upgraded Uniden UM525 and wanted to run NMEA 0183 in/out to the Lowrance. Before I connected the wires, I wanted to make sure the Lowrance unit was working ok, but the GPS would not work. Burnt out NMEA 2000 network fuse. Changed out fuse, it burnt out, also.

I called the "helpful" folks at Lowrance about servicing the unit, and was told that my almost ten year old electronics were obsolete and they no longer worked on it.

Is there someone who still repairs this equipment? I saw someone on EBay who claims to service my unit, among others. Out of Hialeah, FL. Anyone familiar with them?

Any ideas what is wrong? The GPS antenna? The chartplotter, itself?

Are the new HDS Gen 2 and Gen 3 units all that much better? I think the only way I would go to the expense would be for the new unit to cause the fish to hook up to my lure or, maybe jump into the boat!!

I had a similar problem with my 113c hd, kept blowing network fuse and unit would not power up, turned out to be a bad T fitting, that was faulty causing the fuse to blow. Found bad t connector replaced , no problems

Turned out to be a bad 2' network cable. It had a pinch point that shorted when flexed.
