Default SmartCraft Gauges

I have a 2004 Mercury Optimax 200 HP with SmartCraft gauges by VOD. Unfortunately they are sun damaged and not readable. I have been searching for replacements but cant seem to find any. The part numbers are 79-879 897 and 79-879 899. I've done google searches and haven't come up with any luck. Are all of these SmartCraft gauges universal or do I need to find some that are an exact part number match?
P.S. Not sure if this is the right section of the forum

If you are currently running SmartCraft gauges, brand new gauges will work fine.

Sorry to intrude, but i was under the impression that white back gauges where not compatible with the new blue back stuff or mercomonitors for that matter.

I think all the gauges must be replaced together. I don't think they can be mixed and matched. This would be a good question for Mercury. Consumer phone number: 920-929-5040

ok, thats what i was wondering, because if he has the VDO gauges those are the white back ones, same as mine. They suppoosedly need to be replaced with white back VDO gauges as well, per information on here. I went through hell finding them new.

I just wanted to make sure nothing had changed, because I want a mercmonitor. Guess I should probably call.

You can carefully pry the faces off and remove the cloudy piece underneath,it's seperate from the lens. Then fashion a cover to protect the new clear lens from sun damage.

Thanks for the replies guys. Mine say VDO on the back and are blue backs. Unfortunately I think the actual electronic screen is what is damaged not the lens itself.

Ther ewas a SmartCraft transition between 2001 and 2002 motor years. 2001 and earlier SmartCraft motors worked with white backed gauges. 2002 and later worked with blue backed gauges. The exception I have found are MercMonitor gauges (full LCD multiple function) which are white backed but work with newer motors...

Another thing to consider if you pick up used gauges on ebay that I learned the hard way is that SmartCraft gauges must have a unique "id" on the SmartCraft (CAN) bus. Normally this is automatic because when a gauge powers up from a factory reset it initializes and checks the bus for an existing gauge and picks a new ID as far as I can tell. If you buy a used gauge, make sure you do a factory reset (magic button combination while powering on) before configuring settings and sensors and units etc... Search for the SmartCraft Gauges owners Guide on google and look up Master reset for the procedure.

I went down to my local liquidator store and they had one, Its a VDO and blue back like the original on the boat (just a newer software version) Everything seems to be working on it just fine. Make sure if you find one that the pins for the plug match.
