Default Using AC to DC Adaptor for Powering Lowrance HDS Off the Boat

I have a new Lowrance Gen 2 HDS 12 Touch that I will be installing onto the boat in two weeks. In the meanwhile, I'd really like to power up the unit, play with it in simulator mode, do any software updates that might be needed.... etc.

The Lowrance power supply wire has a black, red and yellow wire. So my question is this. Can I use a any 12v male end automotive plug, wire it to the Lowrance power cable... and then plug it into this Garmin adaptor so I can power up the unit in my house?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Garmin-AC-DC...item2a42b2db4a

Or, if this won't work, then what will? Or is there a better way to accomplish this?

Thanks..

Well... I've got one of those that I don't mind cutting. It has 12v 1A output. What about the yellow wire on the Lowrance cable?

If your a hoarder like I am I never throw power cables etc away and stickem all in a a box for that "ya never no moment". A 12vdc transformer from 110AC isn't that uncommon for household electronics - you wont spend much buying one off the shelf from most electronics stores if you don't want to chop what you have...

That yellow wire is likely the same as the yellow on SIMRAD systems - used for common startup of all devices when one head unit starts. In this case - as another said- you can ignore the yellow for off boat operation.

The Lowrance Gen 2 HDS 12 Touch pulls 26W (2A) @ 13VDC, so you need a little bit larger power supply.

But what if the transducers are disabled?

Transducers on pulse systems are not a huge draw of power.

I know this doesn't answer your question but I just carried one of my batteries in the house to hookup
