Default Garmin MFD and Raymarine Fluxgate

I was told by a dealer at the Boston Boat Show that I could connect the Fluxgate compass from my ST5000+ AP to my garmin network via NMEA 0183 to use as a heading sensor. Has anyone done it and how to do it?

You need to connect to your course computer to access the heading data, and yes NMEA 183 is the way to go.

I was just told by Raymarine tech support that will need an E85001 box to use the Fluxgate as a heading sensor to convert the signal to183. Anybody have one sitting on a shelf they want to sell?

I didn't notice it was from an autopilot not longer in use, yes then you need an adapter.

Get a Lowrance Point-1 or Simrad GS25 instead.
