Default Simrad issue

Fellow boaters.. I am a new boater. I had a problem today with my Simrad NSS8 gps. The GPS did not give me the ICW marker indicators and I lost all bottom depth definitions. After much playing, I found on my chart menu that I inadvertently switched to Navionics from Insight. What is the diff?? I understand that Navionics is a optional feature on the Simrad (updated maps, etc.). But why is this option shown?? I winter in SW Florida so any help in this sand bar area is greatly appreciated..Thanks.. Doug

Those units all come with a base Navionics chart, just like Raymarine units. There won't be any detail on them until you put a Navionics card in, in your case you'd want the Gold or Platinum types. It's in the chart options menu so when and if you ever put one in its easy to switch back and forth. Hope that helps.

I have the Simrad NSS8 and bought a Navionics Platinum Plus card...The integrated Insight mapping is OK, but the Navionics mapping is fabulous...The satellite overlay is by far one of the most useful navigating tools I've ever used, particularly in my area where there is no shortage of shallows...
