Hamilton had a special last month for $1650... I have had the Furuno 1623/1750 or whatever numbers are close to them, nearly the same price. This is a 4KW dome.

I have my Simrad 4G, but want this as a back up because I dont like losing out on trips for a radar and also like to have one set at a longer range like 12 miles/horizon to see ships etc coming. We know the limitations of the 3G/4G. I love the close in range 200' is awesome for the harbor but need to be able to reach out a little bit and want a stand alone unit.

I can not speak specifically of that unit, however I have had a few Si-Tex products and find them reliable and dependable more so than some of the popular names in marine electronics.

They 'tend to lack some of the bells and whistles, no reason in my opinion to shy away from their products.

The products I have had are great, although I have tended to buy them as a second back up type thing. I really wish they made their 525-ADF still, that was AWESOME, put them on every boat I had. I know commercially I see some of their units that are so old and still runnning and then you have Koden side. Very curious on this unit. I drove down to the NY Boat show to play with it at the Si-tex booth but lacked asking how long it has been out etc. I do know the display is different but I think it will fit my bill...

That radar is present on the Asian markets as a JRC (Japan Radio Co. Ltd) radar, model JMA1030. The JRC radars enjoy very good reputation among the professional mariners. I have not seen that model myself.
