Default question for Semper about garmins 741xs

Ok so all of the new Garmin products are out and public and the Miami show is over. So i have two garmin 741xs sirius satellite weather and radio and a tm150 with chirp. What are the latest and greatest option that those of us with 741xs should add? Down vue side vue the new real time thing that i dont know the name of but looks really AWESOME!

I made this a thread instead of a PM because I know a lot of people own the 741xs and don't know what is compatible and what the cost is for the available add-ons. Thanks in advanced for the awesomeness that is on the way :-)

I would like to learn more about these. I know The unit can do much more than I am using it for.

January there is a whole bunch of us weekend warriors that have no clue what we can pair up with or what the full capabilities of our 741xs are... Hopefully Semper will shed some light on it for us today....

To start....Most questions about this unit starts with "what transducers can I use..?"

The 741xs has several built in sonar circuits.

1) Traditional tone burst..up to 1 kw 50 / 200 kHz
Here you can use several transom mounts such as the P66, Tm258 and TM260
In hull (Shoot thru) P79 or M260.
Thru hull such as B117, B60, B164, B744, B260.
the 741xs uses a 8 pin port and if you have an older 6 pin transducer you can use the Garmin 8 pin adapter 010-11613-00

2) Single band 600 watt CHIRP
Transom mount would be the TM150M.
Thru hull you have the B150m,B75, B175.

3) Down Vu.
transom mounted GT20...500 watts 77/200 traditional 2D (Not a CHIRP) and a down vu
500 watt 455/800 kHz CHIRP
Also down vu....the GT21 with 600 watts traditional 2D and a 500 watt 260/455 kHz CHIRP down vu..this for a bit deeper fishing .

There is only 1 8 pin transducer port....so only 1 transducer form above can be used at any one time.

That changes if using he GCV-10 as it is connected to the network port..and thus can be shared with the 8 pin input.

4) In addition the Garmin GCV-10 CHIRP side and Down Vu can be used with the 741xs and it is connected via the network port.
One aspect of the GCV-10 is that it also acts as a network port..it has 3 ports..so if you have a radar..you can connect into the the GCV-10 and have 2 outputs or radar information going out to 2 MFD's.
With the GCV 10..connected to the network port...the 741xs can still have a separate transducer connected to the 8 pin port..thus on the screen you will have Side Vu/ Down Vu and 2D traditional sonar.

5) the 741xs can also utilize the soon to be released Panoptix transducer system....this I want to see.

Here a re few Yout clips on the 741 for some general info.

Gil,

Does the GT21 transducer work with the 741xs without the gcv10?

Yes, the GT21 is an 8 pin and will plug directly into the 741xs.....it cannot be used with the 12 pin GCV-10.

The GT21 can also be used directly with:
43dv,44dv. 53dv, 54dv, 73dv, 73sv, 74sv, 93sv,94sv, 840xs, 1040xs, 547xs, all 76XX xsv units and the GSD 25.

I must be crazy or garmin just made this compatable for the 741xs. All I saw was the gt20 which you talked me out of. Will the gt21 work for saltwater depths to 300 feet rock fishing structure and freshwater to about 200?

Garmin has been consistency adding new units and the software to run them.
The GT21, GT50 & GT51 just arrived on the scene.

I would say the maximum working depth of the Down Vu of the GT 21 would be about 300' but am not certain of just how great the quality would be.
200' would be far more reliable overall etc...so many different conditions affect the structure scan at depth .
