Only a CHIRP sonar unit would be able to properly mark such a small fish. The older technology would not work properly..

To answer your question, size of the fish is only one of many factors in how large the arch is on a sounder... corresponding depth (scale), how long the fish is in the cone (boat and or fish speed), etc.

But I'm pretty sure you knew that.
