Default Simrad-Nss 8 or Evo2 7

How does the older 8 stack up against the newer 7?Other than screen size is there any notable differences?Looking to add 2 of these units + radar

I think I will start with some questions instead of explaining the differences.

Which radar do you plan to add, 3G, 4G or open array?

Will you use an transducer you already have?

Is sounder performance important for you?

Do you think StructureScan would be useful for you?

Do you plan to add autopilot?

Abbor, the plan is to add 4G radar and replace the 20 year old Furuno bottom machine. It does have a thruhull trans but its about the same age and needs to be replaced.I do use my bottom machine a lot but it is limited by the age and technology.I don't know enough about structurescan to even know if its something that I would use but looks very interesting. As for auto pilot ,I do have an older Robertson/Simrad in place that has never been hooked up since I bought the boat that I hope I can reuse. This is kinda the reason I was leaning Simrad. Thanks again for your time

NSS Evo2 will give you dual range radar with the 4G. NSS Evo2 has built in StructureScan and CHIRP sounder. Both models will perform the same with your older autopilot, in case you have to upgrade to a newer pilot, NSS Evo2 has a nicer autopilot interface than the original NSS.

My recommendation for you is without doubt 2 x NSS7 Evo2.

Besides screen size, the NSS8 does have more screen resolution than the NSS7evo2 (800x600 vs 800x480) so you can fit more info on the NSS8s screen. The NSS7evo2 does have a nice feature set some which has been mentioned here, I feel the interface is a little faster too.

If cost is a concern, NSS8s are quite a good deal right now.

The edge would have to go to the advanced tech of the Evo 2,

Evo2 and IMHO it's not even close

Much faster processing, much more flexibility in sonar, fast GLONASS 10Hz GPS, pinch to zoom.....

I love my 8.

I you were buying just one, I'd say 8.

Since you're buying two, go with the 7 Evo2.
