Default Best current sonar/GPS combo under $1200?

I'm looking at possibly upgrading my Garmin 740S to something that can read bottom better. I love the navigation on it but feel the bottom machine is lacking.

Been looking at some of the Lowrance and new Garmin models. 200ft is the max depth that I usually fish. Is CHIRP the latest and greatest? Are any units sold with a CHIRP transducer or is that a separate purchase? I bottom fish 90% of the time so reading bottom is an important consideration.

I am wondering the same thing. I was looking at the garmin 741xs with the gcV 10 sonar but have heard the bottom scans are not that good. Any help out there?

Show us the postings from THT that talks about poor bottom work with the Garmin CHIRP ?

The 741xs, 840xs and 1040xs all share the same exact CHIRP sonar.
We have seen many posts from members here who use and like the system,

Look up Bluewaterpirates many posts about the 741 / 840xs and plus others.

The Garmin CHIRP is a very good system

I miss quoted about it not being a good bottom scanner, I apologize. The person I talked to was giving me his opinion about it. He has the 4210 which is the older technology so I don't think he was aware of the chirp technology.

No need to apologize.....this is actually a good point to talk about.
And I bet the person that had the 4210 was using the GSD-22...and that is a marginal bottom machine..

No question about that..

Scientific Definition of Marginal: It don't work worth a darn.

Which transducer is preferred for the 741xs? I'm leaning towards this unit as I may be able to find one used at a good deal. 150' bottom reading
