Default Fish finder / chart plotter combo

I am looking to upgrade my electronics on my boat. I have a 2005 angler 204fx center console. I am looking to stay in the 1500 range and have heard opinions from a few people saying garmin is the most user friendly. I am new too saltwater fishing. I like the garmin 741xs with the gcv 10 black box sonar and am wanting feedback.I'm not sure if ray marine, lowrance or even simrad is better. I would like the new technology, chirp sonar if possible. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

GCV 10 lacking in bottom scanning ?

The CHIRP GCV 10 is a very, very good system.

And the same technology is going to be used in the new 76XX units.

Just the 741xs was lacking in bottom scanning. They didn't mention anything about the gcv 10. Maybe thats why it was lacking.

Bottom detection has a great deal to due with the transducer selection...but if you have the GCV 10 ..that will have far better bottom imaging over any 2D sonar.
the 741,840 and 1040 all have the same CHIRP sonar..and are very popular.

Then you select the 741 ducer for fish finding capability etc.

I thought if I purchased the gcv 10 that it came with the transducer. Are you saying I need another transducer also? Are you a dealer? Can you price what I need?

The Simrad evo2 and the Garmin xs series uses one transducer for the 2D sonar.....finding fish.

They both then also need a second transducer for Structure scan...bottom and side structure.
When you get a GCV 10 it will have the transducer included... correct.

Here is a link to my forum..and also a link to the 741 xs etc.
