Default Lowrance HDS Suzuki DF200A interface

I have a new Blue Wave 2200 Pure Bay on order. The engine I chose is the new 4 cylinder 200 digital. I ordered the SMIS gauges with it.

The question I have is wether or not the SMIS is necessary if I go with the HDS. I would hate to spend the money on the SMIS if the HDS will give me the same, or more information.

I've never had electronics in any of my boats. My last boat had Yamaha digital gauges and that's the only experience I have in that regard.

I appreciate any answers or advice.

While having the gauges on your display is a neat option, it does take up space. If using multiple displays it is more at home.

Are you getting the old 4" B&W SMIS displays, or the about to be released new colour ones (Simrad IS35 but branded Suzuki)? They look very nice! So much better than the old ones......

I'd agree with BOE, you could use the HDS engine data display pages, and you can also use the HDS data overlay feature to put whatever engine data you like on any of the HDS pages.

But it really isn't the best option to only have the engine data on the HDS if you are also using the HDS for GPS and sounder. Tends to clutter things up and I don't think you would be happy with the result.

One of the new Suzuki displays plus the HDS, where you could overlay one or two engine data items as well, would be a great setup. Or, instead of the Suzuki display, another HDS 5 flush mounted where the gauges normally fit to use purely as an engine data display would work well, plus it give you some redundancy for the sounder/GOS combo unit in case it failed.
