Default Garmin 73sv or Garmin 70s+GCV-10

Hello everybody.

Sorry for poor English.

I am looking for my new sonar. And have question. What is better: 73sv or 70s+gcv10. In second case i definitely will have chirp for DownWu and SideWu, and have no information about first one. Only thing i know - 73sv have chirp transducer...

Price aprox the same. And it will be only echo on my boat.

Any help appreciated.

Thx.

I'd go for the 70s. Touch screen and faster gps updates. If you want physical buttons the 73sv is the way to go.

The 70s ..to get 2D sonar plus side and down scan you need the GCV 10 black box and an separate 2d transducer.
So you will have two transducers..one for 2D sonar and 1 for side and down vu...and a black box.

The 73sv will give you 2D sonar plus Side and Down Vu..all built in..no black box needed.
And only 1 transducer needed...the G40-Tm that is supplied.

No, the 73sv has no CHIRP capability.

Default or...

... or get a 70dv which will have down vu but still allow you to add the gcv box later if you want. I think the most significant difference though is touch screen vs buttons. I think they are even the same display (minus the touch). It would not surprise me if we don't see "touch" added to these X3 models by next year as a way to step the price back up. My hunch is that Garmin wanted to drop down to compete with the Elite 7 / 5 models and needed something at that price point to do so. Next they will need to fill a void of the $1000-1300 range once the 741 says goodbye to their line-up. Or maybe that is the unit planned to do this. At least in the short term?

You should still be able to find good deals on the 70dv. I was looking for the 70s and noticed you could get them for as low as $480 at the end of 2014. Not now. As it is discontinued, it is becoming limited and harder to find (and prices will be as high or higher than deals on the 70dv). You will start seeing them on ebay and amazon for higher than the reduced msrp and referencing the old higher msrp from 2013 and 2014.
