Default Sell used Epirb?

If you have already registered your epirb, is it possible to sell it and another owner re-register it. Boat was totalled by Katrina, but less than two year old epirb did not go under. Won't be needing it anymore.

Absolutely. All the new owner has to do is to register it. NOAA does not care who the owner is.

The epirb, new was close to $1000 (ACR Globalfix 406) and was purchased in January of 2004. It says the battery is good until 2009. It is in new condition - what would be a fair price for this unit.

Thanks

Cudacat- I take it you found your boat? Was it close to the marina or in the middle of the woods? I remember you inquiring about going down to look for your boat and was just curious about how it all turned out.

My boat was still in the boat shed where I left it. The boat shed made it suprisingly well. The door on my stall still rolled up and locked - fortunately. I was able to recover all my rods and tackle. The boat floated up until the hardtop hit the roof. The roof held it there while the water came on up and flooded the boat and motors. The boat listed a little to one side, allowing the upper right corner of the cabin to remain dry - that is where my rods and tackle was kept. Adjuster totalled the boat. I think if the top of the boat shed had been five feet higher, it would have made it fine

Sorry to hear that outcome. Glad to hear that you at least got your tackle and other accessories. Do you plan on getting another rig?

I did sell it. Had a lot of interest. Hope the new owner never has to use it. I do not plan on buying a new boat for three or four years. I can retire in 4 1/2 years, so I might get one a year before that. To take proper care of a boat, I figure I need to be able to take off work 1 week every time a hurricane enters the Gulf. You can't wait until two days before. I live 550 miles away. As common as hurricanes are now, I just don't have the time to take off every time a storm rounds the tip of florida. I am thinking of maybe a 30 - 32 footer with diesels, but I have a lot of looking to do. That is half the fun. In the mean time, I will keep reading THT - I still do have a 17 foot bass boat, a 15 foot duck boat, a canoe, and two piroques, so I am not totally boatless.
