Default Garmin 740s Won't Power On

My Garmin 740s suddenly stopped working. I should have (you live & learn) backed up the data on an SD card.

I had a tech troubleshoot the unit and it is not a power supply issue. It's something internal to the unit, but he doesn't know exactly what. He said it's extremly rare, but this unit failed. The unit is outside manufacturer's warranty but still in the extended warranty from West Marine.

If I take the unit to west marine for replacement, i'll never get the GPS coordinates/numbers out of the unit because they'll do a swap out of the entire unit.

Any ideas on how (if at all possible) I could the numbers off the Garmin unit? I was thinking maybe there's a tech somewher that could deconstruct the unit and extract. The numbers are more valuable to me than the cost of the unit.

Located in Tampa Florida area.

Thanks

We typically don't get into stuff like this because it's not worth it money-wise but I would be willing to see if we can help.

If we can fix it...$90 an hour. I don't charge if we can't fix it. You tell me what the most you want to spend on it is.

We start by figuring out if there's a separate power supply board which on the 740s I doubt.

If there is, we would have you get an RMA from Garmin, put a deposit down and have them send you a unit flat rate now so we have 2 units to work with, take the power board out of the exchange unit and put it in your unit and get your numbers back.

If it is a single PCB which I believe it is, we basically reverse engineer the power circuit until we figure out which component is bad. Sometimes it's obvious, sometimes, it's not.

Sometimes, if the IC that is bad is something proprietary to Garmin, we simply cannot fix it.

It may be something as simple as a keypad too, we will look at all possibilities. I would need the unit and power cable.

Good luck whatever direction you decide to take.
