Default Simad 4G storm tracking

Hi,

I noticed a few things mentioned in a couple of other threads about radar and its use for storm tracking etc. I have zero experience with radar.

I am currently looking into radar options for my boat which it will be mounted about 20-23 feet off the water.

There appears to be some different opinions on whether a dome radar can pick up storms/fronts of decent calibre. So can anyone with a Simrad 4G radar let me know if you are able to pick up storms/fronts with it and if so, how high yours is mounted and distance you are able to pick up the storm/front?

Also is it the rain that the radar is picking up or something else - swell/chop/clouds??

This is definitely not the reason I am getting radar!

Thanks
Matt
