Default Garmin 840XS comapre to GSD24

I am trying to figure out if there is anything to gain with the GSD24 over the built in sounder of the 840XS. How does say the 840xs sounded capabilities compare to the GSD24 using a m260 in hull transducer?

I would think the GSD24 would be better, if so how much. If not then great.

What are you going to use the sounder for?

Hard question to answer, will be used for everything from bottom fishing to looking for tuna under bait from 40-700' of water.

My plan is to have two units, one running the m260 ducer and the other with chrip. Going to get the displays installed first, then have to add chrip at a later date, hopefully not to far into the future.

If the GSD24 is a lot better then the built in 840xs then I will only get one 840xs unit and a second plotter with sounder. If there is not much difference then just get two 840xs.

If running two units with the M260 and going deep.....I would also look at the Furuno FCV 585 or FCV 587 as an additional option.
If you find a used FCV 585..they are excellent units.

I have used the M260 with the Garmin and Furuno units and the Furuno for the M260 seems to really have the best results deep...I just think the Furuno has better filters etc.

Does the Furuno GP1870F do as good as the FCV585?

I only have dash room for two displays, and would like both of them to have GPS so I have a back up.

The 2 units have similar specs on paper but use different circuitry design.
For the deeper water use ( Past 500') ..I would put money on the FCV 587 having an edge.

But one has to use what fits the budget and the dash space etc.
