Default Simrad NSS BSM 2 "Bottom Lock"

Hey Gents,

Has anyone found that their bottom lock on NSS isn't really a true bottom lock? It smooths the bottom out more than zoom but not to the extent of other sounders, Its more like a Zoom

Thanks-

Correct! Not a true bottom lock at all. This is an issue that navico has been "looking at" for some time now

Question...why does anyone use bottom lock over as smaller window shifted down to near bottom (similar to zoom)?

If there is wave action or the bottom is rocky/rough, it makes it a little easier to separate fish from the bottom.

Schholsout, Zoom won't show you nearly as much as Bottom Lock (When looking for fish) Bottom lock flattens/smoothes the bottom out & anything above this flat image is normally fish. I wonder why none of the Die Hard Simrad Wizards with all the knowledge haven't commented on this post yet

Sorry I don't have the answer since I don't do bottom fishing. I've had Furuno for 6 years without trying this function so even if I'm now out fishing it doesn't help since I would not have any Furuno to compare the Simrad bottom lock with (I sold my FCV-627 last year)

I am running a chirp simrad and furuno tone pulse and can tell you for certain that the furuno has true bottom lock and simrad does not, and that they have stated that it is an issue that is being worked on. This is from about 2 years ago.

Messed around with bottom lock on my Simrad this weekend. Wow. Who in the world would consider that bottom lock???? I wanted a flat line and got rolling hills....in an area that's pretty much flat. Serious problems there. Really starting to wonder if I made a mistake by not going with Furuno.

If you use bottom lock for your fishing which I do. It is definitely no good. I hope that it is fixed with some software soon.
