Default Furuno sounder problems

Recently purchased boat came with Furuno NavNet 1 with ETR-6/10N (was told is BBFF1) sounder box. Everything worked well until last trip out I could not get a bottom picture on "auto" mode. It kept searching thru ranges and would freeze then move then freeze never showing bottom. I could get a picture on manual but I don't think I was getting the detail that I was getting on auto. After checking my transducer I see that it is damaged, the bronze shell is peeled away from black core on one side. I'm assuming this is my problem and will need to replace the transducer. I'd like to know if the B260 would work with this set up and if I could replace it myself. The boat is a BlueWater 2550 with a bracket that makes LOA 28'. I believe dead rise is 24 degrees. Should I go ahead and update to DFF1 sounder as well. I bottom fish and troll 30'-90' mostly. I can't identify my transducer but will try to post pic

Looks like an impact, see the depression in the potting leading to the brass being pushed out. This undoubtedly crushed the piezoceramic element. B260 is way overkill IMO for 30-90' plus the boat is too small for it, you would have to pocket mount which is big $$$, maybe a B164 or a B60 would be a good replacement. Looks like a B45 is what you have, B60 would be equivalent performance.

Thanks Max, do you think the B164 would fit same fairing block and be a DIY project? Not sure what a pocket mount is. I'm guessing you don't think an upgrade to DFF1 is worth it for shallow water either. Also looks like plenty of room for 22" high speed fairing block yet Furuno recommends 26' SportFisher or larger. Tryin to learn. Thanks again

Both transducers I mentioned are low profile tilted element, no fairing required.

Thanks again Max, I see the B164 has a 20 degree tilted model, will that work with 24 degree dead rise. I was hoping not to drill another hole. Do you sell these, what$.

Max is dead on..your unit looks like an early B45 style. (Furuno 525T-BSC 8 pin )

...........

I would start with looking at the Airmar B45...good for your depth and it looks to be close to your existing existing dimensions.
A B45 will have a head measurement of of 4.01"..and also a fairing of 13.47.

The 3 element B164 is a flush mounted tilted element and the 20 degree will work for boats of a deadrise from 16 thru 24 degrees.....a bit more $ than the others here listed.
You will be fine.
For installation of a B164 you drill a 3 7/8 " circular hole.

Another option...For your depth of 30'-90' is a B60..far less $ and uses a 2.375" hole...also will work for your deadrise.
The B60 has a 45/12 degree cone (Same as the B45)....good coverage for shallow water.

The P79 shoot thru can be use on your depths..no drilling needed...easy to install...good for your depths.
This requires a good sound glass hull.

Lastly......you can use a transom mounted P66.
Same basic element as the B45/B60/P79

You can install all these yourself.
