Default My TM 260 broke off : (

While heading in, going about 18-20knots. Flat calm water.
I had my Furuno 585 with a TM 260, for about maybe lil over 2 years or so.
Very happy with it, never had any problems with it. Out of a sudden my furuno, didn't read anything while heading in. Figuring out what is going on. Well come to find out, putting the boat on the trailer.
What the!
Can anyone explain this? Obviously if i hit something, i would notice with my prop or anything as well.

I'll get a better picture In the morning.

Dealers/Airmar - Feel free to message me or email me @ nofriends46@yahoo.com
Obviously i need a new one, feel free to qoute me on $ or any help in this situation.
Thank you!

I was looking for that answer! Because i remember i got a phone call from airmar. I was on that list. Well they supposed to send me a new bracket or whatever it supposed to be. Well, i still waiting for that to show up to my door. Totally bummed! If i did it purposely or stupid, i would of just thrown $7 bills in the water.

How do I confirm if mine needs the recall? I bought it about 1.5 years ago from Gil.

All the early ones were recalled. If you hit your transducer from the side and the bracket shatters then you need a new one. I suspect you can call Airmar and they can tell you how to identify the bad brackets.

I had two of the bad ones and I did the above test and yep one shattered. It was surprising how easily it shattered.

Look at the tag:

"The plastic support used with Airmar 1kW transom mount transducers
manufactured between October 2011 and February 2012 may break during installation or normal
use. Airmar identified the cause to be a bad lot of molded plastic parts.

I called. Was being polite or anything they can help with this situation.
Gave them my part #/serial #.
I got some attitude from them. What the... " I'll call you back ! "

Thought it would be the waiting game. They Called back in 20 minutes.
Totally different approach. Oh wow! Your transducer bracket, did fall into RARE category. "We forgot to send it to you, will send it out today!"
2 years later? Wait the whole thing fell off! Is there anything you can do in this situation?
Bla bla bla. They gonna call back next week or i gotta call them back. Maybe come up with something special.
If not. Was worth trying to call and resolve it.

Consider yourself lucky you didn't have damage to your lower unit. Airmar was pretty johnny on the spot replacing those early brackets but I can see how a few might slip through.

For anyone who missed it here is the information about the defective brackets.

if you have a TM260,TM258 TM270 you will have a white tag with the units manufacture date in the upper right hand corner.
The units in question will have a date from 10/11 thru 02/12.

Below is the gist of an Airmar Tech Advisory.
................................

Document # M – 0035
May 31, 2012
Author: Irene Robb

WARNING! The plastic transducer support may break. If failure occurs during use,
the transducer may kick back into the cockpit of the boat and cause personal injury
or damage to the hull. The transducer may also be damaged or lost.
Advisory Details: The plastic support used with Airmar 1kW transom mount transducers
manufactured between October 2011 and February 2012 may break during installation or normal
use. Airmar identified the cause to be a bad lot of molded plastic parts.

Transducers with a date code between 10/11 and
02/12 have a plastic support that must be replaced.

Corrective Action: Product Recall – Discontinue use until the plastic support is replaced.
Upgrade Stock and In-field Repair: All affected stock must be updated. Please contact Airmar
to make arrangements for a replacement plastic transducer support.

Phone: (603) 673-9570 ext. 1700
Email: sales@airmar.com
Make the subject of your email M-0035 Product Recall
Replacement Procedure:
An Airmar representative will check the serial number and date code of the transducer to verify
that it is affected.
1. Product not yet installed
a. A replacement plastic support will be shipped directly to you. Remove and destroy
the original plastic support.
2. Product already installed
a. A modified plastic support will be shipped directly to you. There is an added cable
channel in the modified support so the cable does not need to be re-routed through
the boat.
b. Refer to the Installation Supplement supplied with the plastic support for details on
how to remove the original support and re-install the replacement.
