Default Advice on HDS 12 touch G2

I just ran into a great deal on an hds 12 gen 2 touch display. I would like to purchase a radome, transducer and sonic hub for the unit to update my old Raymarine electronics. I have a 2003 240 outrage with twin suzuki 140's. We fish out of Galveston, Freeport and Aransas Pass. We mostly fish in less than one hundred feet of water. We make 3-4 trips per year where we fish in 300-500 feet of water. We also do a fair amount of bay fishing in 5-50 feet of water. We like to bottom fish for snapper, grouper, amberjack, etc. I currently have a raymarine dsm300 w/p66 transom mount transducer and I have been happy with the performance but I couldn't pass up the hds. I would like to get some suggestions on transducers. I don't use radar very often but we make a trip to venice every year in the spring and it is very useful over there. Is it worth the extra money for the 4g radar. Thanks in advance for your advice and opinions.

Got a HDS12 touch and got reasonable performance in the same depths as ypu with a P66.

But bit the bullet and upgraded to Airmar SS264n pair of thru hulls, and wow! Unbelievable! They are expensive, but well worth it, especially out wide. But the shallow water performace is outstanding, too.

If you dont want t go quite that far B164 would also be a good choice.

Cant comment on the radar.

Have a HDS10 gen 2 and are using an Airmar M260 xducer and also have the 4G radar and they all play together well. Finds and ID's fish very good for the fishing I do out here 50-200' mostly. Will still get good readings when on plane in the mid 20's. Cant complain.

As for the unit itself you will love it. For the depths your fishing the regular skimmer the unit comes with will do more than an adequate job, if you feel your missing something then you can upgrade. Out here in SoCal I typically fish in 100 feet or less, with 360 being the max depth for cod set by the Feds and my skimmer works great. This summer we are having one of those years and when we went offshore marking tuna either drifting or trolling was no problem either on the regular sonar or the downscan. The side scan even proved valuable when scanning under fish holding paddies, while making bait looking for bait balls or just drift fishing and scanning the water column.
