So I want to buy a new gps/fishfinder for under $1,000. Any suggestions?

Simrad NSS7 EVO2 - You'll be a tad over the $1k mark BUT, you will have the latest and greatest available. Touch screen and rotary knob input and the list goes on. GREAT units.
