Default Box Speakers for the Salt?

I want to install a couple of 4" or 6" decent quality box speakers under my aft roof overhang facing the cockpit of my boat. Unlikely to get direct spray but this is a salty, tuna killing environment so I need a zero rust low maintenance set of speakers. Recommendations please?

I have found that all speakers will rust (Copper cable that goes from + & - terminals to the speaker cone , and the magnet) in a salty environment. What I have done is spray them inside and out with Fluid Film prior to fitting them on my boat and give them a spray all over once a year.

I agree. They all corrode over time. Spend the $200 on a pair of outdoor poly speakers and replace them in two years.

West Marine box speakers hold up pretty well. Mine are on 5+ years. I do wipe them down after each trip and spray lightly with corrosion x after each trip.

BOSS AUDIO MR12 MARINE 2-WAY BOX SPEAKER is very durable. You can get a pair for $54, they sound good and they hold up to the salt. I put them on my boat under the gunnels this spring and they get hit hard with the salt water washdown weekly. Haven't rusted yet.

Seems like longevity comes with a very large price attached. I'm going to purchase with the expectation that I may have to replace in a few years.

Thats exactly why i bought the BOSS AUDIO MR12. I figured if they didn't last more then a couple years they only cost $27 a piece and wouldn't be a problem to replace. But so far I'm optimistic that I won't have to replace them. I've been very impressed with their durability.

How are the brackets? Mine need to be suspended under cabin roof overhang. Brackets and their mount to the speaker are often the weak link on inexpensive speakers.

Mine are mounted under the gunnel using the bracket and I haven't had any issues with the bracket at all. It would definitely work suspended under the cabin roof overhang. I'd compare the bracket to a bracket that comes with a GPS unit to mount it on the dash.
