Default Reviews on the down vu

Buying a new Garmin for my 20 bay boat and wanted some reviews on the down vu vs traditional ducer

I am told the DV will not mark fish but only bottom structure so I am not sure which to buy

Thanks!

Are you speaking of the "All in one one HD-ID " transducer such as in the 50dv or 70 dv? ..or xs series?
If so..it shows both fish and bottom detail.

The Down Vu portion is used for structure..yes...but will also show many fish targets.
And this transducer also has a traditional fish finder element built in also so you can also find fish etc.

Garmin has 2 variations of the All-in-one-HD-ID transducer.

1) All-in-one HD-ID™ and DownVü Transducer (4-pin)
Part Number: 010-12087-00

This has a power rating of 500 W traditional and a frequency rage of 77/200 kHz in traditional sonar.
The Down Vu operates at 455 kHz using traditional (Non CHIRP) technology.

This transducer is used with the echo 151dv, echo 201dv, echo 301 dv, echo 551dv.

.............................

2) All-in-one HD-ID and DownVu Transducer (8 pin)...CHIRP capable in DownVu
Part Number: 010-12087-01

Also has a power rating of 500 watts traditional and a operating frequency of 77/200 kHz in traditional sonar.

The DownVu operates at 455 kHz but also operates in the CHIRP mode with the xs series GPSMAP units such as the 1020xs,1040xs, 527xs, 547xs, 721xs, 741xs 820xs,840xs.

If used with a dv unit such as the 50dv or 70dv it will still operate at 455 kHz but not in a CHIRP mode..traditional only.
