Lowrance Link-8 ?

Looking for some input on the Lowrance Link-8 VHF. I know it's pretty much the same as the Simrad RS35 but without the wireless mic capability which I don't need.

I've read of some issues with weather channels specifically.

I will be networking with Simrad units.

Thanks

I have one networked with HDS gen2. It works as it should. I cant say it is better or worse than any other unit, but the nmea 2k networking is straight forward, it displays the MMSI and GPS cords right on the screen. Easy to use, physically appears sturdy.

The only thing that bothers me about that type of setup is how many points of failure there are. For it to work with all its charm you have to have the nmea network, hds, and link 8 all up. That's three fuses that could potentially go. plus you have to have house power.

I wish they had a built in rechargeable battery that would cover at least a little while if you lost 12v

Thanks and I always carry my SH HX851 if it all goes down and I need a backup.
