Are you talk about a thru hull or transom mount with waterproof cable fitting for thru hull? I have done 2 thru hulls with no problems. These were done on 46ft super trawler, scans are perfect to 17 knots. The other I went crazy mounted a standard transom on flat of keel at the stern. 5200 and 8 3/4" ss screws, have over 350hrs offshore from Pensacola, fl. I always check after each trip, never a problem. Most I can lose is a transducer. This install is on my 27 Sport Craft duo prop, less than 1 ft seas it will sidescan to 16 mph above 2 to 3 ft seas it drops me down to 10mph if I can stay heading straight into the seas. If you have any questions I may be able help with just let me know. hg

Not thru hull but using the standard ducer mounting into a fairing block. Something akin to this.

You are going to be very happy with your install.
hds12 touch, sonar hub tm260, lss2 (backwards) B75 m chirp, simrad RS35, + wireless,so I can use IPAD for other screens.
Now back to what your are doing, Nice fairing block you made, I used simrads which took an act of congress to get in febuary of 13. The only challenge I have had is firmware updated and forgetting to reset the left right looking setting. Friends with the transom mount can not believe the speed at which both these boats can get clean detailed scans.
one thing I will mention is the speed of your memory card, I had some errors on class 4 sd cards so I read some about the new Samsung pro 32gig 90megs ps transfer speed its a class10 hshc.
. I record all my trips 12 to 14hrs
Almost forgot, heavy coating of clear RTV where the cable curves up, wanted something in case of fishing line hg.

Is that due to space or not wanting to spend 1k on the pair?

Neither, non turbulent, airfree water is why. Yes there is a slight risk of ducer damage but the cost of a
TMLSS2 transducer is worth it for the results you get. hgreen
