Default Electronics setup rec for a 23ft CC

Anyone have any ideas on an expandable electronics setup for a formula 233? Will be used primarily in 20-200ft with occasional runs into 3000ft+ for tuna. I have been using an old Lowrance standalone fish finder and GPS for a long time and I'm looking to move up. Thanks for the help!

Have a look at the new Simrad NSS Evo2, comes in versions from 7-16". It has built in 1-channel CHIRP sounder and StructureScan, and can be used with all Simrad expansion modules.

Why are you recommending something which is non touch?

Having a chartplotter without touch feels close to useless for anyone used to touch screens.

I didn't mind so much the button interface. But I wouldn't want the 1040 in a setup with a touchscreen because I would constantly want to touch it, but all buttons with their interface I could get used to. The things that made me go Simrad/Lowrance was the huge unit to screen size ratio of the Garmin, 4G radar, and trolling motor interface with Motorguide Xi5.

Anybody know if Garmin plans to introduce the 1040xs (or comparable 10" unit) with touch screen? I am going to buy my system next spring and I am hoping they will have rolled something out by then.

Garmin has been very tight lipped about product introductions. It makes sense that they would, but sometimes what makes sense to you and me doesn't always happen.

I had never made a route before I got NSS in 2011, now I'm using it a lot just because it so simple with touch.

Agreed it is a NO BRAINER. Garmin did not incorporate touch so I was not interested. Using a non-touch unit to me is like driving down the highway in reverse. No thanks. I've got an NSS8 and an NSS12 Evo2.

He is talking fishing, I recommend buttons to guys fishing! No where in his post did he refer to touch screen. I know the run that he makes having done it my self a number of times and it can be a bumpy one!. Remember not everyone likes touch screens and that is ok. I myself like buttons when fishing offshore. Big seas, big spray, big fish = messy touch screens.

Thanks guys for all the input.

Brian I like the buttons as well. I've never had a touch screen but I can easily see how nasty hands make for a nasty touchscreen.

pm sent

Nasty touch screens are only seen by those without touch screens . They stay clean very easily.

i have the 1040 xs, and 840 xs networked, and prefer buttons as well
you know when u mash it , its gonna respond....
sometimes the touch screens can be a little quirky

touch screens are for sissies, and women with them there i-phones and such .....

real men mash buttons .......

I would never have a touchscreen... blood and guts don't belong on the screen.

Agreed! It certainly is easier to wipe off a smooth touch screen than it is to get fishy finger gunk out from around buttons..

Look at the Raymarine e127. It is a hybrid that can be controlled by either touch screen or buttons/rotary knob. Built in FF for now, and a chirp module can be added later. Bright 12" screen. I have it on my 23' CC.
