Put a Garmin 840xs on the Boat a month or so ago. Everything was fine...Updated to software version 2.70,Took the Boat out and all was good.Next time I fired it up,the Opening screen was Orange and where it comes up "Agree" It was Blue and not clear at all. Also when I go into screen colors, day or night,it does NOT give any choices other than day or night, nothing sub listed under them.
Go to the Depth Finder part to change colors and it lists the colors for the side scan...But will NOT change to them,It stays Orange.Have the GCV-10 and TM-150 also. That seems to Work o.k. I reloaded Version 2.70 again to day,Fresh and no change.I just haven't had time to call Garmin lately,Was wondering if anyone else has had this issue? Is it maybe a Software glitch or the "Orange" screen of Death...Thanks Guys!

Have you checked your power source to see if you are getting the correct voltage? Or maybe trying a factory reset and see if there is a setting that got messed up. It sounds like if there is an orange tinge that there may be thermal damage, but I can't say for sure.
Have you called Garmin and asked them if this is a common problem?

O,k....Finally had time to call Garmin.Seems like I have a dead unit! Not happy about it..But I will say,Garmin's Customer support is GREAT! They are sending me a complete Brand New Unit, just as they come new with all cables and all!! But they do want me to take as much of the original Install out and send back..Not a quick job..And alot more work! That being said...Pretty cool they want everything back as I would think they would want it all to see if there is a problem anywhere in the complete setup.

Wanted to update the problem I had with my Garmin 840XS....Did everything you could do,Factory resets, updates, Power downs, etc. Called Garmin and they confirmed pretty much what I thought....A defective MFD.. They sent me a Brand New one and wanted everything back that I had installed to find out what went wrong with it. Thankfully it only came with a Power Cable as I wasn't real happy about pullin' and reinstalling everything!
Put the new unit in yesterday and all is well! I will say, Garmin's Customer service was top notch! Hope to get in the water to reset it all back up SOON!

Did you have to send back the transducer?
My 840 has lost sonar intermittently and the recent software update to 2.80 has made it worse. No sonar at all for periods of time, then it just starts working, then stops again.
GPS works fine.
I have the TM150 as well, but don't want to remove that if I have to send it back.

I think it did not keep the previously set settings I was using before the update as best I can tell.
