is my unit 1000watts chirp, for the b175 ?
what depths will i be able to see with the b175m?
garmin site says 3000 ft, but that seems a tad optimistic
and why does it say beamwidth adjustable ?
is that manually, or does the software do it automatically ?

The 1040xs is 600 watts in CHIRP....more than enough being a single band CHIRP unit.
The B175M can read bottom well past 2000' depending on conditions.
1000 watts is the maximum sustained wattage the B175M is capable of without sustaining damage.
Wattage is not the key element when working with a CHIRP system.
Even at 100 watts ..CHIRP units can achieve excellent results due to the fact far greater energy is delivered using swept CHIRP technology vs transitional single tone burst.
The 1040xs with the B175M has a bandwidth of 50 kHz.
In the full CHIRP mode the unit will fire across the full band sweeping from 85 kHz to 135 kHz. (using the B175M )
The beam width is from 16 to 11 degrees and changes as the unit sweeps across the bandwith.
Trust your system...everyone should let their Garmin and Simrad CHIRP units just do their thing.
They do it extremely well.

so will i still be better served with the b175m over the b75 m ?
when you say " full chirp mode " is that a setting that i can turn on or off, or is it controlled by the unit ??
will be fishing anywhere from 20 feet freshwater, to maybe 1200 ft saltwater on occasions

"Full CHIRP"...is using the swept frequency mode..that will give you the most energy into the water.
As I said..trust the unit.

How well would the B175M paired with a 1040xs work in 120' of water.
One thing that still isn't clear to me is if you have the 1040xs with the Down Vu and Side Vu and you pair it with a B175M, will you need 2 transducers or will the Down Vu and Side Vu capabilities work through the CHIRP transducer?
