You cannot share map ( or sonar) images between the xs series and any 4000 thru 7000 units.
You can share waypoints , tracking via a Garmin network.
And of course the radar can be shown on both units.

Thanks Gil, If I will be using the GCV 10, can I use one of the four ports there to connect to the 4208?

I would wager this would work, but you will not see side V or down V on the 4208.

You can use the GCV10 network port with the 4208 yes.

But you still cannot share map or sonar images..but you can share radar.

sounds like the garmin chartplotters are fully network capable 4xxx-8xxx series, where as the chartplotter/fishfinder combos are designed to be stand alone units (7xx, 8xx,10xx series)?

but they can share limited data with other units, but aren't really networked is that correct?

More like 4xxx-7xxx are networkable with one set of standards and 8xxx, 10xx, 8xx, and 7xx are networkable with another set of standards. Not sure if I have the 8xxx fully and correctly identified.

The 4000 thru 8000 series chart or chart/fishfinder are fully networkable among themselves.

The xs series are fully networkable among themselves .
The xs series can share their outgoing sonar images with the 8000 series and map or radar both ways.
The 8000 cannot share its own sonar image back to the xs or echo series..(such as from the GSD 24 or GSD 26)
The echo 70s / 70dv can share sonar and map with the xs / 8000 series but not radar.
