Default Just installed a Smartcraft System Tach on a Mercury 60 hp FourStroke

You won't believe how easy it was. The hardest part was locating a 3-3/8" hole saw.
I installed it on a Crestliner 17 storm, but any late model boat with a Fourstroke and a remote with a Keyswitch harness should be the same.

I only needed 4 parts.
1. The System Tachometer 8M0079892.
2. A System Tachometer Bezel. I ordered white 8590742.
3. A 4 port junction box kit 878492K14
4. A Female to Female gender changer 892453A01.

The only reason I needed the gender changer is because I have an analog fuel tank level gauge and it runs through the Keyswitch harness and since the analog gauge harness is male and the ports on the junction box is male you need the F to F changer.

On the keyswitch harness near the remote shift box is the Smartcraft 10-pin connector. Mine already had the analog gauge harness plugged into it so I had to unplug the analog harness and plug in the junction box. Then plug the gender changer into the junction box and analog gauge harness and then plug the gauge harness that comes with the tach into the junction box. I temporarily hooked it up to ensure it worked correctly and then cut the hole in the dash and mounted the tachometer. Plugged the smartcraft gauge harness into the System Tachometer and it all worked like a charm. I now have all the parameters that my engine provides on the CANbus in one convenient gauge. The only thing I wish it had is trim angle. I talked to Mercury and was told that the 40-60 Fourstrokes don't accept a digital trim sender. So if I want trim angle I'll have to buy an analog gauge and install it.

If you don't have any analog gauges, or you plan on converting everything to smartcraft you don't actually need the junction box. You need a Male to Male gender changer (892452T01) so you can plug the Smartcraft gauge harness into the Keyswitch harness connector.

Im trying to do exactly the same thing on my 2014 Mercruiser 5.0 MPI.

I wasnt aware about the bezel (I will order the chrome one) neither about that the harness were included on the smartcraft.

Any other advice for me before purchasing everything?

Where did you order it?

It's been a little over three months. I've been dealing with some issues so I wasn't on the board.

If you still have any questions I'll be glad to try and help with them.
