For the money I would go for the gx2200. We install quite a few and have never had a complaint.

I've had both the SH 2200 and the ICOM 506 both are terrific radios. I prefer the ICOM 506 because of the Command Mic. You'll pay more for the ICOM it's n2k certified. Here's the ICOM 506 in action.

Here some pictures of my M506 install. I have the rear mic version installed in my helm enclosure.

The cable with the blue connector is the N2k cable it connects into my N2k backbone. The nice thing with N2k it's plug and play.

The VHF under the M506 is an ICOM M504

The white coax cable going to the gold-plated PL259 is bent in much too small a radius curve...coax needs very gradual bends.

Just my opinion, but I have been doing coax projects for over four decades, and this is a "fail".

~3/8" OD coax needs a minimum of 1.9" radius, which is almost a 4" diameter loop. Heavier coax needs an even bigger loop.

If you need a sharper bend, use a 90* UHF-series adapter, like this:

Been bent like that for 5 years serviced an ICOM 504 & SH 2150 before the 506. There is no tension on the connector but that's good solid input.
