Default Garmin 1040XS and GDL30A weather

Just an FYI... these two are not on the compatibility list but a Garmin tech hooked the two together for me and it worked fine. He left it on until the Doppler radar began looping.

Hopefully this will save me and maybe some others from having to purchase a $600 GXM 52 weather antenna.

I googled gld30a and got a price of $684 dollars. How is this supposed to save me $$$?

I am definitely interested in adding weather to my 1040 but am hesitant to splurge $700 plus montly fee.

I was referring to the people who already have a gld30a and are upgrading their plotter. Lots of people doing that these days.

Bringing up an older thread to see if anyone else has linked a GLD 30A to a garmin 840xs?

I have both, but was told they would not work with each other. See hunter made the GLD30A work with a 1040xs, so holding out hope that it will work with a 840xs. Thanks for any info.

Plug it in... it will work. I confirmed it with Garmin.
