Default Good combo for small boat?

I've got a 14 footer that I want to put a chartplotter/sounder combo on. It's mainly a dock bumper/canal cruiser, but I'd like to have a bottom machine to fish some of the inshore reefs, etc, in Tampa Bay. And I figure if I'm going to put a bottom machine on it I might as well add GPS. The 7 inch Garmin would be awesome, but I just can't justify dropping a grand plus on this.

What are some decent options?

Lowrance Elite-7 is a good unit for your type of usage. It has down scanning in addition to ordinary sounder and gps/chartplotter.

Vidar is dead on. A friend just bought this setup and is very happy with it.

Might also look at the Lowrance Elite 4 HDI or Elite 5 HDI are good for a budget too. Downscanning, Chart and sounder too but in a even smaller package. Ran across the 4 with transponder and Gold for $320 shipped just last night at GPSstore.com. I'm leaning that way.

Thanks, guys. Went and looked at the Elite 7 yesterday. Not a bad little package at all.

Also, seeing what appears to be some pretty smoking deals with rebates on Furuno 1870 and 1670. Any thoughts on those?

Check out the Garmin 441s/541s as well. BOE Marine usually has good prices.

I'm in the same "boat". Not to hijack. Looking for a nice little machine for my 17' Classic Mako.

The 441 and 541 garmin seem to be nice machines for the money. Don't need the latest and greatest. Just a nice little color combo machine.

I just installed a Lowrance Elite 4 HDI. Works great.
