Default VHF what's the best

Time to up grade. Some many models etc to choose from. I want quality and reliability but don't want to break the bank. Was thinking in $300 range and add a new 8' antenna. So quality antenna suggestions are welcome too. Keeping my other VHF radio as the dedicated listen to channel 16. I do like the Standard Horizon GX2200. The AIS built in would be a nice touch I think. Suggestion please and thank you.

Standard Horizon GX1700 w/ built in GPS and DSC. I found the features of this radio perfect for my use since I don't need AIS for other boat identification. Buy the best digital antenna you can afford and you will love the set up. I fish off Ocean City Maryland and have raised the Coast Guard from theVirginia station when we received an emergency DSC while 30 miles out. I have 2 vhf fixed mount on the boat and the SH is my "go to" radio. They may have a newer version of my radio since I have had this for almost 3 years. Hope this helps with your decision.

I am so like the GX1700. I think for the money you can't go wrong.

+3. I've been using SH since 1975 and never had one fail. Their low end 1200 has a very weak internal speaker. That's the only complaint I have.
