Default Garmin Homeport - importing charts

I am on Windows 7. Have a Garmin 740s purchased two months ago. Purchased Garmin BlueChart g2 vision on SD for plotter. Purchased Homeport and installed.

I can not get any chart on homeport with chart data no matter what I do.
1. My G2 card is recognized (VUS003R- capecod) but all I see is general chart with no data (depths, channels, contours, navigational aids etc etc )
2. I got new SD card. inserted in chartplotter when off, started chartplotter (to format ), copied map to card and user info.
3. Insert card into card reader at PC and it does not see it. I know card reader works because when I put in the G2 card it reads it ( but does not seem to import it )
4. I tried copying the files on the PC and then import... not successful
5. I AM able to import user data from either card ( tracks, waypoints )

I usually LOVE Garmin products but I am pretty frustrated right now.

Are you sure you loaded your maps onto your sd card and did you use a big enough card? I did mine with an 8gb card and it takes a LONG time to download the card (after formatted which you did). You have to start the download process manually (not sure of the sequence right now but I think it is in main menu/data?). It's been a while since I did it but mine works. The card has to be in the reader and connected to the computer, you cannot download the data and maps onto your computer.

Plug it in to your card reader, then into your computer. open homeport on computer , a little box on the left column should read devices, click it, you should see Garmin 740s under that user data and under that "US Marine Detail g2... click that and you should see pretty much the good old U.S. of A you can zoom in (by clicking the magnifying glass in the tool bar then clicking where you want to zoom in) You have to click the pan button after or you will stay in the zoom mode. Again you can't download this data into your computer or to homeport, you have to use the card.

Crazy... all of a sudden it popped in with the detail. Did nothing different but did the SD card in order you suggested. Maybe time for a new reader. Thanks for help. Now time to dig in...

There may be several regions displayed in the upper left box called "On My Computer". It's the directory of your computer. You should see your SD Mapping Card. Click on the SD Card and it would display several files. Click on the files till your region shows up to display your lake or area body water you are wanting to view.
