Default 741xs

I have a 741xs that I bought for a back up gps that I haven't installed it yet. I currently have a Garmin 5212 with a gsd22 and a airmar b260 through the hull. My question is will the 741xs be a better sounder that what I currently have? I have learned from a previous post that they do not make through the hulls for the 741xs. If it will not be a better sounder then I will just use it as a back up gps. If it will be an improvement, what xducer would you recommend? Not sure if I want to do through hull or transom mount yet. I use my sounder to deep sea jig at buoys here in Hawaii at depths no greater than 500 feet.

The B150M, B75 and B175 are all CHIRP thru hulls that will work with the 741xs.

Are you thinking of a "shoot thru"..?
If so ..then correct... they do not make shoot thru single band CHIRP for the 741xs.

I did mean shoot through. Couldn't think of the word. Lol! What is your opinion on the 5212 vs the 741xs as a sounder?

Since you are using the B260..it will be better than a 741xs with a TM150, B150 or B75.
The B260 is a very good transducer..and would be even better with the GSD 24...over your GSD 22.

But if you go to a B175M then that is when the 741xs comes into it own...vs the B260 and the GSD 22.

Thanks Gil! If I were to upgrade to the GSD 24, is it plug and play or is it a big job?

2 methods.
1) If your current B260 has a mix and match cable system then you just change your cable from a 6 pin to one with a 8 pin.

2) If your B260 is a single line 6 pin dedicated then you use the 8 pin adapter that is included with the GSD 24.

Either way a simple change over...and well worth it.

Default Update

Upgraded to the GSD 24 recently. Went out the othe day with a friend that has a Furuno 585 with tm260. While on our way I my garmin was holding bottom at 1600 feet at 13 knots. He said his Furuno wouldn't even come close to that.
