Default Garmin Meteor vs Navioco Sonic Hub installs

Replaced my Simrad NSS8/TM260, WM2 Weather Module, & Sonic Hub with a Garmin 840xs/Garmin ducer, already had a GXM52 Weather module, and Garmin Meteor. I removed the old and then moved to the new

I mounted the Garmin 741xs and 840xs before moving to the boat once there proceeded with he rest of the install. Only thing I didn't finish today was the Meteor install. My reason for doing this was I'm 69 and my first and only mate Cheryl my wife and fishing partner is 62 and I wanted to standardize the install. We still fish offshore so it's imperative she can operate the electronics. I have nothing but good things to say in regards to my Simrad equipment it served me well for over two years.

As known the Meteor is a Sonic Hub in a Garmin box that works with Garmin equipment. So if your switching from one vendor to the other all the cabling is the same. Power connection, N2k, Sonic Hub docking station works with the Meteor.

There you go.

Do you use the same remote (MS-WR600) on the Meteor?

That's the only thing that didn't connect they have a future growth connection in it's place. You have to use the n2k remote.

OK thanks. Do you just use the Garmin head unit to control it?

How is the bluetooth integration? I just ordered one for my boat that is being built to connect to a Garmin 741xs.

Once you connect to the unit via bluetooth with your phone, does it remember the connection? Can you just power on the device and start playing tunes straight from your phone or are there steps that need to be taken via the Garmin head unit?

The bluetooth integration is really remarkable. Remembers the device every time you power up and always starts playing tunes right from your mobile device. It's really as simple as it gets.

Makes me wonder if I could have just installed a Fusion MS-BT100 Bluetooth Dongle for Fusion Marine Stereo Head Units and connected it to a Fusion MS-AM702 2 Channel 140 Watt Compact Marine Amplifier and just stream from the phone. This would have replaced the Meteor with the Fusion MS-BT100.

I bought the Meteor from West Marine and got an extra 2 years added to the 1 year warranty. If the unit doesn't hold up over the 3 years while covered under warranty, I might look at the the MS-BT100 and MS-AM702 as a replacement system.
