Question Lowrance 7 HDI elite GPS issues. ( wont connect)

I have the lowrance 7HDI elite with then internal antenna. It's located under the windshield and I have a canvas top. If I hold it out further under the glass it hooks up sometimes. I'm looking for an external antenna and can only find one that requires a network also. The others all say for the 5 elite hd. Does anyone know of a simple external or if the 5 will fit the 7

Thanks

Not sure you should need an external antenna. I have used several lowrance and Simrad product flush mounted in a fiberglass console and under a fiberglass hard top. Your setup sounds simpler.

I spend 15-20 mins sometimes getting it to link up at the dock . Once it connects it's fine. I haven't heard to many complaints about the internal antenna but I can't think of anything else that may help. I'm located north shore Long Island Coming out of mount sinai harbor. One other guy told me he's had issues there. Maybe a factory reset can help

I sometimes have the same problem as Knot with roughly the same set up, although I have the HDS7 touch. If it keeps up, I'll get an external ant.

LGC-16W is the external antenna for Elite. It's a passive antenna only so it requires no special cabling and is relatively low cost.

I emailed lowrance and asked about that atenna and thy said it will not work on the 7. Only option is a network. Guess I'm shelling out another $300
