Default Simrad & Lowrance radars/electronics - starting to see alot more now

I had purchased a Simrad NSS8 this spring and I am starting to see a lot more of these radars/electronics on boats now. I was very hesitant when I first purchased mine but they seem to be growing on boaters now. As of today, I am very happy with mine however I only have the 3G radar/chart plotter set up. I have a Furuno FCV 620 fish finder which is a great unit and have no intention of replacing as of yet. Mainly because I know absolutley nothing about chirp, structure scan, side scan, etc. I have also noticed that some bigger boats/yachts
in the 30-40' range have these set ups. Makes me feel relieved at times. Anyone else noticing?

Navico (Simrad/Lowrance) has a very extensive marketing program and lots of flashy new product introductions that has increased their market share quite a bit over the past three years. They also price pretty aggressively. Garmin started down this path earlier and has also increased their presence a lot and is now moving into the high end with their 8000 series.

If you like the performance and user interface of your Simrad unit, really your only worry should be about customer support. Simrad seems to be pretty good in my experience with the NSE system on my boat although I am not happy that I needed them so much due to the failure of three displays in three months.

I hear what your saying about the unit. Many people on here had problems with the unit locking up. I have not experienced this YET. I'm sure it will happen at some point.

Funny how you notice stuff once you have one. After I bought my Lance camper I started seeing them everywhere. And it's not like they just appeared after I bought mine.

NSS9 and 3g. Lovin it.
