Default opinion of furuno navnet system

I'm purchasing a 2004 31' jupiter with a single 12" screen, furuno navnet system. I'm not familiar with this system and have yet to really use it. If anyone has an experienced opinion with this system please let me know what you think. I am considering replacing it with a raymarine e120w (I still have from selling my last boat and new owner didn't want) or just going with new simrad equipment. I'm a serious bottom fisherman so let me know what you think of the navnet's fish finder (not sure what transducer is on it yet).
If the navnet is a good unit I may just buy another navnet to run dual screens and link together. I will be adding radar to this boat so please add any radar opinions that you may have. thanks.

Navnet is an excellent unit although there have been many bells and whistles added to electronics in the last 10 years. If you're the type to want the latest and greatest then change it, but for your needs this is a very good unit and Furuno has great service if needed.

Absolutely agree. Second, when you see the book that is the user manual, you will understand the meaning of ridiculously over complicated. But, damn dose it work forever. (Except the trackball)

Yep works great, I have one. However you have to read the manual a few times to understand the process of doing things. It is not as intuitive as some of the machines today. I use mine just as a chart plotter and radar, added a lowrance hds and newer thru hull witch I use as bottom machine. Much better than the vintage furuno.

Reliability is the key issue with Furuno. You can't beat these units for always performing. Look at most of the commercial fishing boats, most will have Furuno in their wheelhouses. As with the other posts, the owners manual leaves something to be desired. Once you catch on....it is easy to navigate through the menu's.

I had a navnet 1 and a navnet 2 both complete systems. Both were bulletproof... but as stated above were difficult to learn. The navnet 2 was quicker and ran the better, bigger charts. Both systems were sold used for a good buck. Furuno will continue to support the navnet system for many years going forward. The sounder and radar are the best the plotter is very plain jane... I just installed a TZ 14 touch system. Dam thing is very sweet. A vast improvement

great info, I'm probably gonna keep the unit and purchase radar (as long as it's priced appropriately).

Furuno has training videos for this system, that's how I got my start. You can check them out on their web site: http://www.furunousa.com/LearningCen...ng-Videos.aspx
