Question Suzuki DF140 ignition/wiring problem

Hi

I'm helping a friend with his 2002 DF140. The problem is that intermittently it will not start, all the gauges are dead and the the trim and tilt on the throttle does not work. When this happens the trim and tilt on the engine works. Occasionally the engine will die while running with the same symptoms.

Comparing his wiring harnesses with mine, a 2008, they look corroded.

Is these a single wire or connection that can cause this?

I have the service manual with wiring diagram but do not know where to start.

Regards Kristoffer

There is a white wire that powers the ECU and also goes to the helm. If that wire is broken, corroded or loose, it will cause the sorts of problem you describe. Some dealers connected this wore to the starter motor positive lug and it shouldn't be connected there, it should go direct to the battery. There may also be a join in the harness where it splits and the join may get corroded.

Search for "Suzuki white wire" on this forum and you will get more details of where to look.

Hi

I will double check the white wire including where it connect to the engine, I checked the fuses on the harness yesterday.

I'm guessing the "ignition wire" to the key or the actual ignition switch could cause the same symptoms?

Tnx Kristoffer
