Default Need color FF, should I get the 178C as a FF or 250C?

For those of you that have seen my other threads the last 2 day, I just thought I would start a new one that more clearly states my issue and question. Please bear with me. Thanks!

Currently I have a Garmin 182 GPS and a Garmin 240 Blue FF. I want a color FF. Here's my thought process. The 178C is only about $220 more than the 250C. Plus it is just about the exact same size as my current 240 blue FF. I was thinking I could get the 178C and replace my 240 Blue without making any cuts and just plugging in the wires from the current transducer, power, and external antenna from my 182 if my 182 were to ever die (as well as the map chip). Plus, if I really liked the color GPS, I could just use this as my primary GPS instead of the 182. What's wrong with my theory?? Thanks!

Why not just get a 250C? I don't see teh need for two mounted GPS's, but thats just me. I mean if your 182 buys it, you'll probably end up pulling it out anyway, and being left with another hole.

If you need a backup..get a 76c or something hand held. Just my .02.

As I've said in two other posts in other threads...I would install either a 250c or a 320c depending on which one would fit in the space. In either case (and with the 178c as well), you are going to have to cut a different cutout in your dash so that's not even a consideration. If you want a color GPS, then buy a 182c but that will also require cutting your dash....the back of all these units is different, even though what you see is about the same size.

Why don't you go to West Marine or equivalent and look at all the units....look at the back of the units and see how they mount. And why don't you look to see how your 240 is mounted as well....and stop asking for the magic answer here. It's time to do a little homework..unless you want to just hire someone to mount whatever you pick.

Thanks for all your help THANK TWEISS (although that last comment was a little rude). Anyway, I appreciate it and I decided to go with the 320C and for the GPS part. I am just going to pay someone to install it. If I hadn't posted on here, I would have bought the 178C thinking it would fit since the dimensions are the same, but it wouldn't have. Thanks again!
