Default Gaemin 178c or Lowrance 332

Like the internal antenna of the Garmin. Like the fuel flow sensor & I already have the mapping software for the Lowrance. What would you choose and why?

I got the Garmin because 1) I have a Garmin "investment" with some other mapsource software i have used in the past and an existing transducer 2) I had a 250 FF and the 178 only required a little grinding to fit the original hole 3) Garmin customer service is great.

I compared the Garmin to the lowrance 337c and I think the lowrance has a better looking color screen than the Garmin does--it seems brighter to me. What really swayed me was my investment in other Gramin products from previous experience. Had it not been for all of that, i probably would have purchased the 337c.

I recommend the lowrance LMS 337c Df.. The screen is brighter, and linked with the Navionics gold or the new platinum cards the mapping is top notch, the sonar is tops , and the Navigation portion is just Ok. The online simulator form lowrance is great , and helps understand the new features without having to be on the water,,

Currently have the Garmin 178C, on prior boat has a b/w Lowrance depthfinder. As for the depth/fish finder, I think the Lowrance is much better. I occassionally have some issues with the Garmin losing the bottom and acting a little quirky at times.

Overall the Garmin unit has been fine, but the Lowrance [for me] was a little better all around unit.

Have not had a Lowrance GPS unit.

I would go with Lowrance for several reasons first and formost, is the user interface. When you are rocking and rolling
in choppy water, or really need to mash buttons, the Lowrance was far easier to manipulate. When I did my initial
investigation, the Lowrance 332cdf just flat out had more features, no add ons reequired.. I did get the Navionics gold
and highly recommend this addition, but the unit does come with basic mapping, and dual freq transponder. I didn't
know it at the time, how could ya.. but Customer Service is unlike any thing I have ever encountered. They sould
run a school for the rest of the industry. First time out, while on the water I called in asking a mapping question, there
was no horrid music, and I got right through. Tech helped me out before I got to the first channel marker. Next was
the time I ran over a dead fish and ruined the sonar transducer. "No problem" was the response, everything is warrentied
for the first year just don't over tighten the kick up bracket. Lady just asked if I wanted it over nited or would surface
mail do? Lastly, the GPS hockey puck I thought would be a pain and I kinda liked the internal antenna of the Garmin.
In actual fact, I now prefer the hockey puck approach. It gave much more versatility in placement of the head unit and it
works fantastically well just with some double back tape and stuck up on the dash under the windshield. I have only one
complaint. There is so much flexibility that you can fat finger into the unit that they provide a one button reset
that returns the unit to Factory settings. Unfortunately, this reset does that exactly and it impacts everything. I
would like to see an option to return GPS or SONAR to Factory settings, independantly. Hope this helps others
going down the selection path.
