Default GPS slow to get signals!!???

I thought it was a bad connection, then the other day I locked my units up in my unairconditioned cutty as opposed to taking them home and putting in a cool house. It fired right up with good signals. Could I have been causing a problem by taking them from a cool house out into warm humid air??? They sure do get alot of condensation built up on them.

Default Re: GPS slow to get signals!!???

I doubt the move between home and boat made any differance. One thing that does make a difference is where the start of calculations occurs. My unit starts the calculations from the last known position, usually the dock where I tie up. If I start the GPS in the same location, it will take less time to pinpoint my location. If on the other hand I drive the boat down the road two hours, then start the GPS up it will take a little longer, but this presumes that the new location has the same unobstructed view that the GPS had back at the home dock. Here's another anomoly: standing still takes longer to calculate than moving, and the faster you are moving, the easier it is to calculate. You would need a matmatics major to explain why this is and how the calculations work, but the above observations seem to hold true for my Garmin E-trex, as well as the Lowrance GPS unit.
