Default raymarine! what are they like?

Just wonder about the qualite on raymarine electronics. Read a lot about all sorts of failure on the software aso. I bought a ray ds600x fishfinder and had to send it back since it didn´t do the work properly - lost track and depth aso. It works fairly ok now, but still.
I want to buy a c80. Are they good stuff? Read a lot about them, but lot of people do have them and increases the problems too, eh?

Raymarine has great products and their tech support/customer service is equally as good. I love my C120 and all the other Raymarine add-ons.

Every blue moon you get a bad unit, I just had a customer have a Garmin 3010C fail out the box, it happens to all brands. Raymarine makes only quality marine electronics. You'll be happy either way..

Raymarine in my opinion is one of the easiest systems to use network wise. The units are all menu driven with soft keys to punch your way through quickly. The sounders are simply awsome! The radars work very well and come with an automatic tuner that works very well. I have no complaints thus far.

Guess I better recheck and see why mine don't work as well as others. Mine lost its fix several weeks ago and all Raymarine can say is power it down and wait 1 minute and repower it. I have done that and it is still lost. Thank the good lord for Garmin.

fldmax, is your problem with a Raymarine gps? Does it have a 120 antenna? If so that may be the problem. When Raymarine said to 'power it down' I suspect theyre saying disconnect the antenna from it's power source as the 120 has had a probelm with data overflow. I too lost gps fix, contacted Raymarine, and they replaced the antenna... no problem since.

I've had nothing but good experience with their products and service.

i just posted yesterday about problems with my raymarine ds400. won't work unless i am idling or sitting still. any faster than idle speed and it power cycles off/on until i come back down to idle. spoke to their tech support today, they are a joke. they told me the only way to make it stop is to buy a second dedicated battery, and switch. i asked why that isn't stated on tehir website or in the manual and he said "sometimes it will work on a single battery but we don't recommend it."

I am going to pull the boat out of its barn and try powering down the antenna and see what happens. Thanks for the info. If it works I will chat with them about a replacement.

I have the DS600X and love it. It will fog up a bit first thing in the mornin due to temp changes, but clears up after the units been on for a little while... not really an issue for me and only happens when we leave out the inlet at 0 dark 30. Transducer position is definately key to keep the unit reading. Mine works great up to about 40 mph.. after that, there's too much turbulance or somethin goin on behind the boat for it to stay lock'd on. But the unit and transducer work great, definately let ya know what's down below.

I also have the Ray 435c and love it... went from Garmin 180 to the Ray 435 and I have the confidence in the Ray that I had with the Garmin. I do use a Garmin V for the back up/ditch gps.

Either one is a good unit. I have friends with the Lowrances and they seem happy with them (both sonar and gps).

I have seen and ran some settings on the C120 Ray.. those are very nice and have what I consider a large screen... can read them from the ramp! My bud Rick in Orange Beach 'Bama has the C120 and all that integrated system stuff on his Wellcraft 330 Coastal and from his opinion of Ray, he's happy and would go with Ray again.

as far as quality, raymarine is easily as good as the other major makers. as for ease of use, i dont think you can get any easier. (if i can figure it out, a one eyed howler monkey with two left thumbs can figure it out). the dealer support is incredible and the factory support is 1st rate. the raymarine 'help desk', is not superior, in my opinion. heard lots of stories of how little help they can be, and my experiences are the same. not complaining and i dont expect miracles over the phone, just offering my opinion. as far as 'problems' or 'issues', there are some floating around on this forum now that appear to be chronic. the power down thing seems to be growing. we have experienced it ourselves and went through everything that has been recommended. after no positive results, i had to take the display (C120) out and take it to the service center. got it back into the dash yesterday, on the 2nd or 3rd cycle of the equipment, same powerdown problem is still there. im going to re-install the 2.14 software tonite in hopes it, well, i dont know what im hoping for, but i would like it to work. hopefully a full fix is in the works. i'd still buy raymarine again.

Here's a RC435 & DS500 in action about 20nm south of Morehead CIty, NC on Saturday Aug 6th. Good pictures of the DS500. U can read the data info on the screen of r depth, temp, etc.
