Default No Fix

For the first time in almost 4 months, my RL70CRC with a raystar120 gave me a no fix warning. It happened 3 times on my way out this morning, then after that it worked perfect the rest of the day. I heard someone else on the radio complaining that his GPS was getting a No Fix also. This was about 8am this morning. Anyone else experience this today?

I have had this happen to me several times same combo RL70CRC+; Raystar 120; and 4kw Radome. Emailed raymarine tech support and they said that if the Raystar gets a prolonged NO FIX while continually powered its buffer fills and the NO FIX will persist. They recommended power cycling - ie turn battery power off for one minute and then re-power to clear buffer. This seemed to work well.

I have the same setup & it happened twice recently (never before). A dealer told me that the 120 has a buffer overflow problem if it stays on for long periods (> 30 hours). Both times mine occurred just after power up. Recycling power on the display doesn't clear it. I had to turn off all power to the helm, so I assume the 120 is powered separately from the display. I like my Ray stuff, but it is very quirky & does not instill confidence.

I have one that lost its fix and I have not been able to get it to work. I e mailed ray several times and little to no help. I have powered it down and back up etc. I will try shutting off all power and see what happens. I agree Raymarine is not quite up too speed by my book. My bottom machine has given trouble but when it works it does a good job. I also have a garmin 2010 and it has yet to be a problem. The bottom machine part lacks detail over 100 ft but it is ok since most of the time I power down its box and power up the 1000 watt raymarine. I like the Garmin for it ease of operation with the key pad etc for way points and it does a great job of getting me there and back. Can't say that for the raymarine.

They got me once, shame on them. They will never get a 2nd chance with me.
