i recently replaced a broken transducer and have not been able to get a consistent bottom reading. I have check and made sure that the machine is set to 200 htz and all other settings are on auto.

Have you tried manually putting the depth scale in the range of the water your boat is currently in? Occasionally depth sounders "see" thermocline's instead of the bottom.

CA.....If you are over 400' or so, switch to 50 htz, and try different manual gain settings.
