Default Lowrance card problem

Morning guys,
I have a problem with my LMS 332c, I was playing around the other week and saved my waypoint data to the navionics card [and seemingly deleted them from the unit].
Problem is I am unable to "load" the data back in, it say's that it has, but it doesn't ;? .
I have looked at the card on my computer and can see the file, but cannot open it or access the waypoint data.
I figure that the card might be "copy protected" to stop it being pirated, as I have tried to copy the file to another card and load off it, but no cigar either.
Maybe someone with "mapcreate" software might be able to access?
Any thoughts?

Gooday Northernblue

I own the Lowrance 3300C GPS/Chartplotter and use the Navionics Gold chart MMC for my geographic area (Chesapeake Bay - Maryland). While I am not 100% sure, I've read that trying to read and/or manipulate data using a card reader and your PC can pose problems for your Navionics card (for exactly the reasons you outline).

That being said, I've found the folks at Navionics to be among the absolute best when it comes to providing customer service for user's of their products.

I would suggest that you call Lowrance customer service first and then try Navionics if you don't get the problem resolved. I found the Australia contact info at their website (www.navionics.com). Here it is:

NAVIONICS AUSTRALIA
134/85 Reynolds Street
Balmain, NSW 2041 Australia
Tel: +61-2-9555-2522
Fax: +61-2-9555-2900
Email:sales@navionics.com.au

Good luck and I hope that you get your problem fixed.

Thanks for the reply Ed,
after posting and seeing how many reads this thread had, with no one posting any suggestions, I bit the bullet and have started to manually re-enter what waypoints I could , it's a great way to spend a few days .
I'm kind of lucky that when I upgraded gps last year I transcribed my waypoints to paper, so I do have a record to copy from, although I will loose spots that I found since then [will have to rely on the old internal gps ].

A REMINDER PEOPLE:

BACK UP ALL YOUR ELECTRONIC DATA!!!!

Learn from this dumb ass, back it up.

PS Ed, its G'day

Thanks for the correction on G'Day mate. We are very slow here in the colonies Anyway, since my last post I have confirmed the following (directly from Navionics):

WARNING! YOU WILL LOSE YOUR CHART DATA!

Inserting your Navionics Chart into a PC or multi-card reader, attempting to back-it-up onto your PC or add files to it will damage the chart data and will render the card useless. Navionics, nor your dealer, will be able to replace the chart data.

G'day Ed,

I also have been told the same thing by my dealer. Although it seems that my chart is ok

I got into this mess because the rockbar that wiped out mt etec 75 also took out my transducer, and when the boat came back [with honda 90] my lms 330c sounder/gps was not showing a water temp, then a couple of trips later the unit just seemed to stop sounding [gps was ok].

Because I was on the water and still feeling paranoid/sheepish about my altercation with the rockbar, I did a "soft restart".
I had been told this would wipe my waypoints, so I saved them to the navionics card, and here I sit......

Ps. "soft restart" didn't solve the sounder issue and the unit has been returned to lowrance and my dealer has loaned me a 332c, great unit by the way, much better than the 330, I told my dealer that I wasn't going to give it back

Anyway I've some shrimp I've gotta throw on the bbq

Similar button pushing dilemma here. I have the 337CDF and love the unit. Recently, I have been trying to adjust the fishfinder settings to get the widest angle cone but in shallow water. I am trying to locate a buddy's lost outdrive and the fishfinder does paint a nice bottom picture. Unfortunately, I will have to pass directly over the unit, and even then I'm not sure what I will find. So there I was fiddling with settings, and decided it was time to return to factory original. Unfortunately, this wipes out every option one ever set. First go off was to re-read the Navionics gold chip. I toggle down in the window that shows available files, select "Chesapeke" but for some reason the display just doesn't look exactly like it used to. The crew got restless with all the "Beeping" every time I would try a new adjustment, so I will need to do a special on the water solo trip and tinker with it to make certain I have all settings back to where I want them and the map data is being correctly drawn. Any tips greatly appreciated, or it will be a call to Lowrance from the water on my cell phone.

Sorry to hear Franko, I turned the beep off for the exercise
The only tip I can offer is not to take too many beers with you as they will not help the sequential thought proccess required to accomplish the task
On the bright side you may decide that you can use some better options this time around, and make sure you back up your data to a different card or direct to your computer.

Good luck

Got out yesterday, and at first look couldn't understand why the map looked different. Since I had no distractions
only took a few tics to see that the map looks different when in International mode versus, U.S. Sure wish the
good folks at Lowrance would make the reset option selectable between SONAR and GPS. Right now reset does
just that it resets everything.... small irritation for such an otherwise excellent interface. One question I have regarding
the maps, if I trailer the boat up to New York, will the Mapping automatically pick the right map. Currently I use
the Chesapeke Bay option and it seemed to work all over the Potomac, as well as when I went to Ocean City. What
happens when I venture a little further afield?

You are a bit out of my geography Franco, but I guess if your map covers where you are going then your GPS will locate you on it. If you are travelling outside of the geography of your map, I guess you will need to purchase the map for that area.

PS I can't believe how much improved the interface on the 332 is compared to the 330, no way my dealer is getting it back

make sure you get an mmc card to back up your waypoints. And any time you put in a different chip you have to change it to read that one especially if it holds two. The machine will pick up the buoy's etc. but want show the catagraphy unless you have that area. There is also a reset button but that's the last resort.

Not sure I understand that last entry so here are the details of the question. I have the Navionics chart series that has charts from St. Lawrence seaway to Wilmington SC. I usually cruise in the Potomac and so I have Chesapeke region selected. The Cartography is excellent showing markers/bouy's fairly accurately. Over 4th July I went to Ocean City Md. (trailored the boat there) I made no selections on the GPS but the mapping for Assawoman bay was presented ( I think this is still within the Chesapeke map region but don't know) My question is this, should I trailor the boat to New Jersey, would the map automatically update, or would I need to go make the selection from the GPS setup window?

Thanks..

I don't know if this will help you but here goes. I have a Lowrance GlobalMap3000 GPS with the Navionics MMC 1G905XL3 (US Mid-Atlantic & Canyons). This card has 4 seperate files. They are: 1G634XL (Chesapeake Bay), 1G637XL (New Jersey and Delaware), 1G645XL (North Carolina) and 1G068S (Bermuda).

My home water is the Chesapeake so I select the file 1G634XL. When I trailer my boat to the Outer Banks I have to manually select the 1G645XL map on my GPS.

In your case, I would say that you have to do the same thing. Good luck.
