Default Transducer placement on 23 Contender?

Anyone have experience with shoot-thru's on this boat? I am considering bottom painting in the future (makes my cringe just to think about doing that to this hull) and was concerned that an in-hull transducer would be plagued with growth. Same thing with a transom ducer.

Anyone have a transducer anywhere on a 23 Contender? If so, are you happy with placement?

Thanks.

GB that Hull is not cored so a shoot thru is fine.
there is a special Transducer Bottom Paint I would paint that area with it ...The copper in the anitfowl paint could affect the signal ...

Contenders are cored so a shoot thru will not work. Tilted element from Airmar would work great for you.

I guess the 3 customers that I sold shoot thru's to in my DryStack unit are not finding bottom ...

Maybe Jim you might find out if Contender builds a Pad in their Hull that's NOT cored for shoot thru"s!!!!!

Cus it's funny they will factory install shoot thru's

Whooa there tiger. I stand corrected. If you say Contenders are not cored I'll take your word for it.

I spoke with the dealership today. They said they have done shoot-thru's and they work well. Of course, cost for the transducer and job to do it is $800...OUCH! They said a shoot thru doesn't work well because the hull is so thick. I may try the transom transducer for a while to see if is sufficient and put some money into some other toys for now.

I'm shooting through the hull on a 25 contender with a "hockey puck" transducer and reading the bottom fine at 40 mph- I don't think Contenders are cored below the waterline.

That's interesting dmartin. I'm sure the 25 has the same construction as the 23. Now I'm more confused than ever. Is the hockey puck transducer something from airmar?

What sounder are you looking into? Most sounders have puck style transducers for them. You can also get the adjustable inhull type that work very well.

This is Furuno's in hull #520-IHD for the 1850 unit. It is a 600 watt adjustable inhull transducer.
